COVID-19 cases climb to 147 in Russia

MOSCOW, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Russia registered 33 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 147, official data showed Wednesday.

Of the new cases, 31 are in Moscow, one in the Tomsk region and one in the Novosibirsk region, Russia's Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being said in a statement.

All the patients, who have been isolated in hospitals for infectious diseases, had visited countries hit by the coronavirus in the last two weeks, it said.

Those who had contact with them in Russia have been identified and work is underway to place them under medical supervision, it said.

Out of 56,991 people suspected of being infected and put under medical supervision in Russia, 17,904 remain under control as of Tuesday, it said.
