BEIJING, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia highly appreciates China's outstanding achievements in fighting COVID-19, said the Indonesian government's Coordinator for Cooperation with China Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan on Wednesday.

Luhut, in a phone conversation with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, congratulated China on the victory in sight for the containment of COVID-19.

Luhut said it is no easy task for China, with a population of 1.4 billion, to take vigorous measures and put the epidemic under control successfully.

The remarkable leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and solidarity of the Chinese people have won admiration worldwide, he said.

Indonesia highly appreciates and sincerely congratulates China on its outstanding achievements, he said, thanking China for providing medical supplies assistance to Indonesia.

In the face of a speeding spread of the epidemic, Indonesia is ready to learn from China's successful experience and take effective measures to tackle the virus, he said.

Indonesia hopes that bilateral exchanges and cooperation will resume as soon as possible after the epidemic is brought under control, including efforts to implement the arrangements for the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations, and to continue to advance major projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, said Luhut.

For his part, Wang said that under the strong leadership and personal command of President Xi and through the arduous efforts of all our people, China is now seeing the dawn of victory in the people's war against the epidemic.

When China was facing the challenge of the outbreak, President Joko Widodo made a special call to President Xi to express support, while the Indonesian government and all walks of life actively donated medical supplies, which showed their friendship toward the Chinese people, Wang said, adding the Chinese side is deeply grateful for that.

Currently, China empathises with Indonesia at a time when the latter is under pressure to contain the epidemic, he said.

Despite its own need for large amounts of medical supplies, China is willing to provide assistance within its own capacity to Indonesia in light of the close and friendly relations between the two countries, he said.

Wang said he believes that under the leadership of President Joko, Indonesia will surely overcome the epidemic as soon as possible.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, Wang said, adding the two sides should take the opportunity to strengthen cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, in particular implementing key projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway.

Virus respects no borders and is the common enemy of mankind, he said, calling for the international community to join hands in fighting the epidemic.

From the start of the outbreak, China has shared the genetic sequence of the virus with the international community in the spirit of openness and transparency and actively pursued international cooperation, he said.

With great sacrifices in fighting the epidemic, China has not only safeguarded the health and safety of its own people, but also won precious time for the international community to respond to the epidemic, he continued.

China's efforts have won great acclaim from the World Health Organization and the international community as a whole, he said, expressing belief that history will make its fair and objective judgement.

China is firmly against any stigmatization and attempt to target a specific country during the epidemic, because such immoral and unfair actions do no good to effective international cooperation in fighting the epidemic, or to countries focusing on dealing with their own outbreaks, Wang said.

Fighting the epidemic is a common cause concerning the health and security of mankind, he said, adding that China will continue to stand firmly with the international community for the ultimate victory against the virus.
