KUWAIT CITY, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait has decided to regulate the entry of customers to food stores, the Kuwait's Union Of Consumer Co-operative Societies announced Sunday.

Meshaal Al-Sayyer, the union's chairman, said in a statement that the union has a new mechanism to regulate the entry of customers to its branches, as part of the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Only 50 people will be allowed to enter at a time in the main co-ops and five customers in the small branches while maintaining social distance in the queues, he said.

In addition, customers will not be allowed to stock up on their needs of basic commodities, he added.

As a precautionary measure, customers with high temperatures will not be allowed to enter, he noted.

The chairman said that a quick examination will be applied to customers and those with temperature exceeding 37 degrees Celsius will be transferred to the nearest clinic.

Kuwait reported 12 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 188, the Health Ministry announced Sunday.

The Kuwaiti government has decided to impose a nationwide curfew from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. starting Sunday to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

On March 13, Kuwait suspended all commercial flights to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The government also decided to close shops, malls, and barbershops.
