KUWAIT CITY, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait reported one new COVID-19 case over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 189, the Health Ministry announced Monday.

At a press conference, the ministry's spokesman Abdullah Al-Sanad said that the new case is a Kuwaiti woman who recently returned from the United Arab Emirates.

He said that out of the 189 confirmed cases, 30 have recovered and 159 are still receiving treatment.

There are five cases still in the ICU, he noted, adding that about 702 individuals have finished the quarantine period.

The Kuwaiti government has decided to impose a nationwide curfew to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

On March 13, Kuwait suspended all commercial flights.

The government also decided to close shops, malls, and barbershops.
