BANGKOK, March 23 (Xinhua) -- With the temporary closure of business venues effective on Sunday, Bangkok Governor Pol General Aswin Kwanmuang on Monday further issued urgent guidelines to the public to prevent further spread of COVID-19.

Aswin advised that people should not be traveling beyond Bangkok to prevent the risk of being infected, furthermore spread the virus to children and the elderly.

He also said people should stay home and clean as frequently as possible touched surfaces and toilets and keeping seats apart by least 1 to 2 meters.

Organizations must look after their employees by following the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Public Health, including wearing face masks and providing hand-sanitizing points.

Also, if possible, to work from home and use video-conferencing instead.

People who have visited boxing stadiums, entertainment venues or other places where confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported, including those in contact with patients, should closely observe their health and immediately see a doctor if they have fever, cough, sore throat, and difficulty breathing.

The Bangkok governor also said that activities drawing people together should be avoided, including conferences, training courses, seminars, exhibitions, public events, concerts, drama or movie shootings, or viewing programs in television studios or live broadcast rooms.

All mass transportation should reduce crowding of passengers by providing a large enough space for passengers so they are separated 1 to 2 meters apart, increasing the number of trips, cleaning frequently touched surfaces, setting up hand-sanitizing points, checking passengers' body temperature and carrying out effective waste management.

Besides, they should instruct any passenger who has a cough, is sneezing, or has runny nose to wear a face mask.

The stringent measures came as the number of daily COVID-19 cases have jumped in large numbers on a daily basis.

"Bangkok is a key center for economy, transportation and tourism. The city is also densely populated, so if we don't all work together to contain COVID-19, it will become uncontrollable," Aswin warned.

Monday saw 122 new cases of COVID-19, tallying 721.
