ISLAMABAD, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects are vital for the development of his country as these projects will provide huge opportunities in terms of employment, communication and economic prosperity.

While chairing a high-level meeting on the progress of CPEC projects, Khan highlighted that fast-track implementation of the projects is in the interest of Pakistan. "Timely decisions are required so that cost-escalation on these projects is avoided."

Pakistan enjoys extreme good-will with China which has been proven time and again during challenging times faced by the country, the prime minster said.

Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan, Chairman of CPEC Authority Asim Saleem Bajwa and other senior officials were in attendance at the meeting.

Briefing the meeting in detail about progress on CPEC projects, the chairman of the CPEC Authority said that "9 energy projects under CPEC have already been commissioned."

Progress on major energy projects under CPEC including the hydropower project in Karot was meticulously discussed in the meeting.

Pakistan established the CPEC Authority last year with an aim to speed up research and the execution of the development projects under the mega program.
