UNITED NATIONS, March 24 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations on Tuesday published its Humanitarian Response Plan 2020, which is seeking 545.3 million U.S. dollars to help 3 million of the most vulnerable people in Chad.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said at the press briefing via video-link that the amount sought this year was "a little over 69 million dollars more than last year's appeal."

"Continued conflict in neighboring countries, and increased insecurity, due to non-state armed group's activities in the lake Chad area have displaced over 650,000 people on the Chadian territory," he said.

"Thousands of people have been displaced multiple times for over a decade with little prospect to return home in the near future," Dujarric added.

"Malnutrition levels are also concerning with rates of severe malnutrition at 2.9 percent above the emergency threshold," he noted.
