Portugal's public debt ratio down in 2019: report

LISBON, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's ratio of public debt to gross domestic product (GDP) stood at 117 percent at the end of 2019, down from 122 percent a year earlier, according to a report released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Portugal's national accounts of public administrations recorded a surplus of 0.2 percent of GDP in 2019. This is the country's first positive budget balance since 1973, the report said, quoted by Lusa News Agency.

It added that the country's public debt was 126.1 percent of GDP in 2017 and 131.5 percent in 2016.
