GHAZNI, Afghanistan, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Afghan national security forces have confiscated a heavily laden explosives truck in the country's eastern Ghazni province, the country's Ministry of Interior said Thursday.

"The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces seized a truck packed with 3,400 kg of banned-chemical ammonium nitrate along with 39 roadside mines' remote-control devices, 150 fuses and an amount of materials used in building improvised explosive devices in Deh Yak district late on Wednesday night," the ministry said in a statement.

With the seizure of the big amount of explosives, dozens of possible terrorist activities were prevented, the statement added.

Elsewhere, in Achin district of neighboring Nangarhar province, the Afghan army discovered and defused 40 roadside bombs and IEDs within the last 24 hours, Ataullah Khogyani, provincial government spokesman, told Xinhua earlier on Thursday.

The IEDs had been hidden by Islamic State (IS) militants in Dochi Zhavari area of the district, where the 201 Selab Army Corps personnel launched a search operation and defused the ordnance, the spokesman added.

The IS and Taliban militant groups fighting the government have not made comments so far.
