BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Beijing's procuratorate said Friday an asymptomatic carrier of the novel coronavirus was arrested after allegedly failing to report his Wuhan living history and violating quarantine rules after arriving in Beijing.

The People's Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality said Friday that the man surnamed Chang would be charged with impeding epidemic prevention and control.

Chang left his longtime residence in Wuhan in the early hours of Jan. 23 before the city's outbound travel restrictions came into force and returned to his mother's home in Beijing on Jan. 24.

Procurators said Chang did not report his living history in Wuhan or observe a 14-day home isolation. During the period, he visited supermarkets and pharmacies many times.

He was diagnosed as an asymptomatic case on Feb. 18, two days after his mother was confirmed as a COVID-19 patient, leading to the quarantining of over 20 people with whom he had close contact.
