MOGADISHU, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Somali government on Saturday announced new aviation measures which are expected to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.

The Ministry of Transport and Aviation will extend its ban on international flights from Sunday, and from the same day all the local flights will be banned as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased to three on Friday.

So far, two Somalis and a foreigner (UN contractor) have been tested positive for COVID-19 as the Horn of Africa nation readies more measures to contain the spread of the disease.

The ministry is also tracing people who traveled with the first patient on the same flight, noting that a toll-free number, 449, has been set up for the public to seek advice and report suspected cases across the country.
