ADEN, Yemen, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's internationally-recognized government strongly condemned on Sunday the Houthis' firing two ballistic missiles against Saudi Arabia's capital of Riyadh and Jizan city, according to its state-run Saba News Agency.
The Yemeni government said that "the continuation of such hostile and terrorist acts by the Houthi militias indicates the unwillingness of the terrorist group to achieve peace."
Earlier in the day, the Saudi Arabia-led coalition fighting the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen confirmed that the kingdom's air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed the ballistic missiles.
The attack occurred just days after the Houthi group issued a statement that included its acceptance of the United Nation's calls to temporarily ceasefire in order to confront the danger of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
During the past weeks, the Houthis intentionally stopped declaring statements to claim responsibility for its attacks against Saudi Arabia or other missile attacks inside Yemen.
The impoverished Arab country has been locked into a civil war since the Iran-backed Shiite Houthi group overran much of the country militarily and seized all northern provinces, including the capital Sanaa, in 2014.
Saudi Arabia leads an Arab military coalition that intervened in Yemen in 2015 to support the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi after Houthis forced him into exile.
