Chinese shares end lower Monday

BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended lower Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.9 percent, at 2,747.21 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.03 percent lower at 9,904.95 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 633.13 billion yuan (about 89.9 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 633.9 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers 1,180 to 301 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,781 to 392 in Shenzhen.

Stocks in the oil drilling services sector led the losses, with shares of the China Oilfield Services Limited plunging by 5.3 percent to 11.25 yuan.

Film companies and broadcasters are also in the losing territory, as shares of film industry giant Wanda Film Holding Co., Ltd. skidded 7.04 percent to 15.72 yuan apiece.

Meanwhile, shares related to animal husbandry and property management are among the gainers.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.28 percent to close at 1,860.48 points.
