YANGON, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday requested the Myanmar expatriates to return to the country through border gates after April 15 amid fears of COVID-19 spread.

The request came after one national who returned home from Thailand through Myawaddy border town tested positive.

There is a high possibility for the pandemic to spread between the mass returnees at the border gates as well as people in the country, the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, all those returnees from all border areas will not be allowed to return to their homes directly but will be subject to a 14-day quarantine at designated facilities.

Myanmar has detected 14 cases of COVID-19 so far, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports on Monday.
