Putin, Erdogan discuss coronavirus situation, Syrian settlement over phone

MOSCOW, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the recent situation in connection with the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic and the Syrian settlement during a phone conversation on Wednesday, the Kremlin said in a statement.

"The heads of state informed each other about measures taken to combat this infection. Particular attention is paid to cooperation in ensuring the return of Russian citizens who are in Turkey to their homeland," it said.

According to the statement, a substantive exchange of views continued on the Syrian settlement, including the implementation of the Russian-Turkish agreements on the stabilization of the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone, which were reached on March 5, 2020.

The two sides also touched upon the Libyan issues. And they discussed topical issues on the bilateral agenda, with a focus on trade and economic cooperation, it said.

The presidents agreed to continue contacts at various levels, it added.
