WARSAW, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Polish men's volleyball team coach Vital Heynen will probably sign a new contract as his current deal is valid until Tokyo 2020.

The Belgian coach led his players to the world championship and EuroVolley 2019 bronze medals but the podium at the Olympic Games remains his main task on Poland's bench. He is ready to extend his contract as Tokyo 2020 was rescheduled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

"In December, we agreed with Vital that we would talk about extending contact after the Olympic Games but the event was postponed. We arranged a conference call this week. I ensured him that I would like to extend his contract," the president of the Polish Volleyball Federation (PZPS) Jacek Kasprzyk was quoted as saying by Przeglad Sportowy on Wednesday.

"In 2021 there is not only the Olympic Games but also the European Championship which we are the co-organizer. I would like to take into account that event in talks about new Heynen's contract", added Kasprzyk.

After the postponement of the Tokyo 2020, Poland's staff plans remain unknown. The Polish league was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak. FIVB Volleyball Men's Nations League, which was to believe as the main test before Tokyo, was also postponed.

"Even if they postponed the Olympic Games again or closed the stands, we would adapt to new realities. I told my players that even if you have to wait a year longer to make our dream come true, it doesn't change anything. So that they still remember that after the games we have our whole life to enjoy what we achieve at them," commented Heynen.
