BERLIN, April 2 (Xinhua) -- The German Air Traffic Control's (DFS) revenues increased by 0.3 percent to 1.18 billion euros (1.28 billion U.S. dollars) in 2019, the company said on Thursday.

Net profit for financial year 2019 increased by 218.3 percent to 35.6 million euros, after a loss of 30.1 million euros in the previous year, according to DFS.

"Against the background of the weakened economy and the negative development in the aviation industry, we can be satisfied with our business development," said DFS CEO Klaus-Dieter Scheurle.

In 2019, the number of registered flights in German airspace declined by 0.4 percent to 3.3 million compared to the previous year, according to the DFS.

Due to the coronavirus crisis, air traffic decreased "drastically" in the first quarter of 2020, the DFS noted. On March 31, only 1,341 flights were monitored in German airspace, 84.7 percent less than on the same day of the previous year.

For 2020, the DFS expects a loss of revenue of around 500 million euros due to the coronavirus crisis.
