GENEVA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- The peak of COVID-19 outbreak has not yet come in Switzerland, and it's too early to drop current containment measures, a Swiss health official said at a press conference on Thursday.

"We have not yet reached the peak of the epidemic, but the increase is no longer as serious as before," said Daniel Koch, a top official from the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).

"It is too early to make a reliable forecast of what will happen in the coming weeks. It is also too early to reduce the measures," he told reporters.

According to the latest situation report released by FOPH, Switzerland is now one of the hardest hit countries in Europe with 213 confirmed cases per 100,000 people.

As of Thursday, Switzerland reported a total of 18,267 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 432 deaths.
