Roadside bomb kills police, wounds 2 others in Afghanistan's Kandahar city

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, April 3 (Xinhua) -- At least one police officer lost his life and two others sustained injuries as a roadside bomb struck a police van in Kandahar city, the capital of southern Kandahar province, on Friday, provincial police spokesman Jamal Barikzai said.

A mine planted on a road in Kandahar city struck a police vehicle Friday morning, killing one police on the spot and injuring two others, the official said.

Without providing more details, Barikzai said that an investigation had been initiated on the incident.

Kandahar, the former stronghold of the Taliban outfit, has been the scene of militancy over the past several years.
