BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The world is now in a battle against COVID-19, a disease caused by a previously unknown coronavirus that has spread to over 200 countries and regions.

LONDON -- British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was admitted to hospital for tests on Sunday night, 10 days after testing positive for COVID-19, Downing Street said.
Johnson has tested positive for the coronavirus on March 27 and is self-isolating in Downing Street, but his symptoms "continue to persist."

FRANKFURT -- The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Germany climbed to 91,714 as of 0:00 local time on Sunday, with a death toll of 1,342, according to data from Robert Koch Institute, the country's disease control authority.
The confirmed cases were 5,936 more than the previous day.

LOS ANGELES -- The Consulate General of China in Los Angeles started to send out health kits, including face masks and disinfection supplies, to Chinese students living in Southern California and other states this weekend.
There is also traditional Chinese medicine in the health kit, which has been proved effective in lessening symptoms by Chinese frontline medical experts in the battle against the COVID-19 epidemic in Wuhan.

PARIS -- France has registered a total of 8,078 deaths caused by COVID-19 since the outbreak of the epidemic, the Health Ministry announced on Sunday.
The disease claimed 357 lives in hospital in last 24 hours, taking the toll in hospital to 5,889. In addition, the counting by elderly nursing homes across the country found that there were 2,189 deaths since March 1, the ministry said in a press release.

NEW YORK -- The total number of deaths of COVID-19 in the United States topped 9,000 as of 1:30 p.m. Sunday local time (1730 GMT), according to the data compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
A total of 9,132 people have died of the pandemic among 321,762 confirmed cases in the country, the CSSE said.

WASHINGTON -- Captain Brett Crozier, who has commanded aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt until his recent removal by the Navy for sounding the alarm about a coronavirus outbreak on board, has tested positive for the virus, The New York Times reported on Sunday.
The Times, citing Crozier's Naval Academy classmates, said Crozier exhibited symptoms before he was relieved of his duty on the warship Thursday.

TEHRAN -- The recent U.S. block of a loan by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Iran to help the country fight the COVID-19 outbreak amounts to "crimes against humanity," Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said Sunday.
The U.S. opposition to "the IMF's granting a loan to Iran to provide the necessary equipment to fight the coronavirus outbreak is a real instance of crimes against humanity," Shamkhani tweeted.

ADDIS ABABA -- The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa has reached 360 as confirmed cases reached 8,536, the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention revealed on Sunday.
The Africa CDC, a specialized agency of the 55-member African Union (AU), in its latest situation update issued on Sunday said the cases were spread across 50 African countries.
