BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- China saw safe and orderly tomb-sweeping activities on Sunday, the second day of a three-day Tomb-sweeping Day holiday, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Monday.

A total of 7,762 funeral facilities across the country opened to the public for onsite mourning, receiving over 2.9 million visitors.

On the same day, over 4,100 charitable mourning ceremonies were held on behalf of groups who were not present and 134,300 ceremonies held for individuals in the same situation, with over 7.1 million people using online platforms to mourn the deceased, the ministry said.

The ministry reminded the public to strengthen personal protection and avoid mass gatherings due to the ongoing novel coronavirus outbreak.

Tomb-sweeping Day is also known as Qingming Festival. During the period leading up to and after the day, people pay tribute to the deceased and worship their ancestors by visiting tombs and making offerings.
