Israel's COVID-19 death toll hits 54 as total cases climb to 8,611

JERUSALEM, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Israel reported five new death cases from the novel coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 54, Shamir and Shaare Zedek medical centers said Monday.

The five deceased, aged from 66 to 96, had all suffered from other serious diseases, the hospitals said.

The Israeli Ministry of Health said the number of the novel coronavirus cases in Israel has risen to 8,611.

Of the 760 patients being treated in hospitals across Israel, 138 are in serious condition and 191 are in moderate condition, the ministry said.

Of the remaining 7,797 cases, 5,279 are treated in home quarantine, 875 are treated in hotels converted into treatment facilities, 585 have recovered, and the remaining 1,058 will be treated at home, hotel or hospital in accordance with decisions to be made soon.
