VIENTIANE, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese anti-epidemic medical expert team has been to the China-Laos railway construction site to advise the engineers there on COVID-19 prevention and control.

The team told Xinhua on Monday that its members went to the railway track welding yard of China Railway No.2 Engineering Group (CREC-2) in the outskirts of Lao capital Vientiane on Sunday. The team communicated with the site engineers and held a seminar on the COVID-19 prevention and control.

Liu Xiaoqiang, a member of the expert team, introduced the current epidemic situation and prevention and control situation in Laos, popularized the basic knowledge of the virus, and carried out detailed explanation on personnel management, health monitoring, material preparation, workplace hygiene requirements, workplace disinfection, and personal protection during the pandemic.

The China-Laos Railway is a strategic docking project between the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Laos' strategy to convert itself from a landlocked country to a land-linked hub.

The 414.332-km railway, with 198-km tunnels and 62-km bridges, will run from Boten border gate in northern Laos, bordering China, to Vientiane with an operating speed of 160 km per hour.
