CAIRO, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Egypt reported on Monday 149 new COVID-19 cases and seven more deaths from the novel coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 85.

Khaled Megahed, spokesman for Egyptian Health Ministry, said that the total number of coronavirus infections in the country climbed to 1,322.

He noted that all the new cases are Egyptians who returned recently from abroad or had contact with the confirmed cases.

He added that 12 more patients, including 11 Egyptians and a foreign lady, fully recovered from the virus, bringing the number of recoveries to 259.

Egypt started on March 25 a two-week nighttime curfew as a key part of the country's precautionary measures against the highly infectious virus.

The most populous Arab country has also suspended schools, universities and all classes, halted flights, closed entertainment places, stopped mass prayers in mosques and churches, and shut down museums and archeological sites to curb the coronavirus pandemic.
