Macao's land containerized cargo grows by 15.1 pct in February

MACAO, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The gross weight of containerized cargo to Macao by land in February grew by 15.1 percent year-on-year to 996 tons, the special administrative region's statistic service said here on Tuesday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the cargo passing through the Cotai Checkpoint expanded by 23.7 percent to 970 tons.

On the other hand, the gross weight of port containerized cargo went down by 4.5 percent to 7,585 tons, with cargo handled at the Kaho Harbour falling by 52.1 percent to 1,771 tons whereas that shipped through the Inner Harbour rising by 36.9 percent to 5,814 tons.

In the first two months, the gross weight of containerized cargo by land increased by 6.3 percent year-on-year to 3,301 tons, while that of port containerized cargo decreased by 22.0 percent to 18,611 tons.

The Macao International Airport handled 645 tons of air cargo in February, a drop of 56.5 percent year-on-year. The gross weight of inward cargo (235 tons), outward cargo (337 tons) and transit cargo (73 tons) declined by 46.0 percent, 60.5 percent and 62.6 percent respectively.

In the first two months, the air cargo fell by 19.6 percent year-on-year to 4,074 tons, the DSEC report added.
