WARSAW, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 outbreak in Poland will probably peak around April 25 with 9,000 confirmed cases, according to the latest prediction by the Polish economic and social forecasting company ExMetrix.
The company previous projection, published on March 28, cited the same maximum number of cases. However, last month it predicted the peak to occur on April 20, the Polish Press Agency (PAP) reported Wednesday.
"The latest update of the prognostic model for the development of COVID-19 indicates a slightly milder increase in the number of detected infections," ExMetrix said. "This is due to the update of the model with a more accurate temperature forecast and the relatively high number of tests needed to detect one infection."
"We invariably believe that one of the key elements of an effective fight against coronavirus is to limit migration, direct communication and discipline in complying with the introduced restrictions. Our models assume that these factors will not change significantly during Easter," said Ryszard Lukos, chief analyst at ExMetrix.
Polish Health Minister Lukasz Szumowski has said that thanks to its restrictive measures, Poland had significantly contained the spread of the novel coronavirus, and the country might register 10,000 cases at the peak.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Poland has reached 5,000, with 136 deaths, the Health Ministry said early Wednesday.
