DAR ES SALAAM, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases has risen from 25 to 32 on Friday with three recorded deaths, said a statement by Tanzania's Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children.
The number rose after five new cases of Tanzanian men were recorded in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam and two new cases were reported from Zanzibar, said the statement.
The statement signed by the Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Ummy Mwalimu, added that two more COVID-19 patients died on Friday, bringing to three the total number of patients killed by the viral disease in the east African country.
The statement urged the public to continue observing guidelines aimed at preventing the spread of the virus declared by the World Health Organization as pandemic.
Meanwhile, Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Friday thanked China for the support it has provided the east African nation in the fight against COVID-19.
Majaliwa thanked China during talks with the Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Wang Ke, held in the capital Dodoma, said a statement by the Prime Minister's Office.
"We are very thankful for the medical supplies we are receiving from the Chinese government and individuals. The donation is helping Tanzania to fight the virus," said Majaliwa.
He also thanked China for taking good care of more than 500 Tanzanian students studying in Wuhan.
For her part, Wang said more donations in terms of medical supplies from Chinese institutions and individuals will be supplied to Tanzania in the near future.
