RABAT, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan health ministry reported 74 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the total number in the North African country to 1,448.
So far, 107 deaths from COVID-19 have been reported while 122 patients recovered, said the ministry spokesman in his daily briefing.
The most affected regions are Casablanca, with 416 cases, Marrakech-Safi with 278, Rabat-Kenitra with 221, and Fes-Meknes with 181, he added.
Meanwhile, Minister of Industry and Trade Moulay Hafid Elalamy said Morocco will produce 5 million face masks to preserve the health of the citizens.
The face masks will not be exported, Elalamy noted.
Morocco has made the wearing of face masks compulsory for all people outside their homes starting Tuesday.
Any offender will be prosecuted and liable to the legal penalties, ranging from one to three months in jail and a fine between 30 and 130 U.S dollars.
On March 22, Morocco declared a one-month state of medical emergency until April 20 to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
