NANJING, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Huaxi Village, known as China's wealthiest village, has donated medical supplies worth around 2 million yuan (about 283,500 U.S. dollars) to aid the African country Mozambique in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

The supplies, including 500,000 face masks, 6,000 protective suits and 3,000 goggles, have been dispatched Wednesday and is expected to reach the Embassy of the Republic of Mozambique in Beijing the next day, said Wu Xie'en, an official of Huaxi village.

The village in east China's Jiangsu Province, about 130 km away from Shanghai, has accumulated wealth through the development of industries ranging from steel and chemical fiber to banking, new energy, logistics and marine transport.

Huaxi has also expanded its business overseas in recent years, with investment in enterprises in countries including Mozambique, according to Wu.

"The virus outbreak has waned in China while the overseas situation is rather severe," he said, noting that the village is willing to help Mozambican people.

Mozambique registered seven more cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 28, said the Ministry of Health of Mozambique on Tuesday.
