JAKARTA, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Nine miners were killed in mine slides in an underground of a traditional gold mining site in Indonesia's Sumatra Island, a senior disaster agency official said on Sunday.

Rescuers on Sunday retrieved all the bodies buried in the underground of the site in Ranah Pantai Cermin, Solok Selatan district, West Sumatra province, a senior official of the Disaster Management Agency, Frikri Budiman, said.

"All the nine miners have been recovered from the underground," he told Xinhua via phone from the district.

Rains had poured down the area before the mining accident happened a day earlier, according to the official.

Traditional mining activities commonly operating with lack of safety standard are rampant across the natural-resource rich Indonesia.

The government has barred such activities as they have frequently triggered mining accidents that claimed dozens of casualties, and resulted in environmental damages. Enditem
