UNRWA to exert more efforts to support Palestinian refugees amid COVID-19 outbreak: official

BEIRUT, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Philippe Lazzarini, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA)'s new commissioner-general, vowed on Friday to exert extra efforts to support Palestinian refugees in Lebanon amid COVID-19 outbreak, the National News Agency reported.

"We will be making increased efforts in attracting more funds to support a decent life for Palestinian refugees," Lazzarini said during his meeting with Palestinian Ambassador to Lebanon Ashraf Dabbour to discuss the living conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

Dabbour emphasized the urgent need for support by the UNRWA to alleviate the sufferings of the Palestinian refugees amid the current difficult circumstances.

The UNRWA provides humanitarian aid and support to around 5.6 million Palestinian refugees in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.

The agency runs 709 schools that provide education to 532,000 pupils and 144 clinics. Enditem
