RIO DE JANEIRO, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Minister of Justice and Public Security Sergio Moro resigned from office on Friday, accusing President Jair Bolsonaro of trying to interfere in Federal Police investigations.

On Thursday, local media G1 reported that President Bolsonaro had called for the dismissal of the head of the Federal Police, Mauricio Valeixo. Moro reportedly said he would not fire Valeixo without good reason and threatened to quit. The government on Friday morning announced Valeixo's dismissal, and Moro subsequently announced his resignation.

According to Moro, President Bolsonaro fired Valeixo because he would not reveal details of investigations being carried out by the Federal Police, as they are confidential. Under Brazilian law, the president cannot interfere in Federal Police investigations.

Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro said on Friday to "tell all the truth" about the resignation of Moro.

The statement was made in President Bolsonaro's Twitter account, which is one of his preferred manner of communication. Bolsonaro promised to clarify the circumstances of Moro's departure in a press conference to be held late Friday afternoon. Enditem
