MINSK, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Belarus has bought the first batch of oil from the Saudi Arabian national oil company Saudi Aramco, Alexander Tishchenko, press secretary of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim, said on Wednesday.

Belarus has bought 80,000 tons of oil from Saudi Aramco. A tanker is expected to deliver the oil to the Klaipeda port, Lithuania on May 11, the official said.

The Belarusian side does not exclude the possibility of future oil contracts with Saudi Aramco.

"The supply of Arabian oil may continue, it depends on the pricing environment and the situation on the market," Tishchenko added.

While Belarus faced problems with oil supplies from Russia in the first quarter of 2020, it began to search for alternative ways of oil deliveries. Belarus also tried to import foreign oil through ports in Ukraine's Odessa and Lithuania's Klaipeda.

Earlier, Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko ordered to diversify oil imports in Belarus so that Russia would account for no more than 40 percent of all supplies. Enditem
