Vietnam's footwear export up 1.3 pct in 4 months

HANOI, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam raked in nearly 5.5 billion U.S. dollars from exporting footwear between January and April, witnessing a year-on-year rise of 1.3 percent, according to the country's Ministry of Industry and Trade on Friday.

Largest importers of Vietnam's footwear products included the European Union, the United States, China, Japan, and South Korea.

In the four-month period, the country also earned roughly 1.1 billion U.S. dollars from exporting handbags, wallets, suitcases, hats and umbrellas, down 5.7 percent from the same period last year.

In 2019, Vietnam reaped nearly 18.3 billion U.S. dollars from exporting footwear and over 3.7 billion U.S. dollars from handbag export, witnessing respective year-on-year rise of 12.7 percent and 9.9 percent, according to the country's General Statistics Office. Enditem
