MANILA, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines' daily tally of COVID-19 infections rose by 258 on Thursday, bringing the total number in the country to 11,876.

The Department of Health (DOH) said in a bulletin that 86 more patients have recovered from the disease, bringing the number of recoveries to 2,337, and 18 more patients have died, bringing the death toll to 790.

According to the DOH, 188 cases or 73 percent of the daily cases were reported in Metro Manila, 54 cases or 21 percent were reported from other parts of the country, while 16 cases or 6 percent in the Central Visayas region in the central Philippines.

Vince Dizon, the deputy chief implementer of the Philippine government's response to combat the COVID-19, said the Philippine government is trying to address around 7,000 COVID-19 tests backlog in two weeks.

The DOH also said that a total of 2,165 healthcare workers were infected with COVID-19, and 737 have recovered.
