TEHRAN, May 17 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian defense ministry on Sunday called for closer defense cooperation and strategic partnership with the new Iraqi government for regional security, Tasnim news agency reported.
Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami made the call in a video meeting with his new Iraqi counterpart Juma Anad Saadoun.
"We seek to become strategic partners and turn our relations into a successful paradigm of cooperation," Hatami said.
Iran's principled policy is to support a united, independent and powerful Iraq, he noted. Enditem
