BEIRUT, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese shops and businesses re-opened on Monday following a decision by the cabinet to reduce general mobilization measures adopted in fight against COVID-19 given the dire economic conditions prevailing in Lebanon, Elnashra, local independent newspaper, reported.
Clothes shops, restaurants, cafes, beaches, hotels and other retail businesses and companies opened their doors after over a month of closure which caused heavy financial losses.
The economic losses due to COVID-19 outbreak were estimated at 120 million U.S. dollars daily.
Citizens have taken all needed precautionary measures requested by the health ministry to prevent further spread of the virus since Lebanon has been seeing continued increase in infections for the past few days.
People were seen wearing masks while working in their shops or walking in Beirut's streets with most of the merchants not allowing the entrance of more than one customer at a time.
Lebanon had witnessed successful results in containing the virus since its outbreak in the country. However, neglect by some residents and others who arrived from infected countries resulted in an increase in infections in several areas of the country.
Lebanon's number of COVID-19 infections increased on Sunday by nine cases to 911 while death toll remained unchanged at 26. Enditem
