DHAKA, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh reported 1,251 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its total to over 25,000.

Nasima Sultana, a senior Health Ministry official, said at an online media briefing in the capital city Dhaka that "1,251 new COVID-19 positive cases and 21 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh."

"The total number of positive cases is now 25,121 and death toll stands at 370," she added.

Bangladesh on Monday reported the highest daily jump of new 1,602 cases in a 24-hour period.

According to the official, 8,449 samples were tested in labs across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, and 408 more patients were released from hospitals and clinics, bringing the number of recovered patients in the country to 4,993.
