Iran reports 2,180 new COVID-19 cases, 135,701 in total

TEHRAN, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Iran on Sunday registered 2,180 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 135,701 since its outbreak in late February.

Meanwhile, 58 new fatalities were confirmed over the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from the coronavirus to 7,417, according the health ministry.

Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the ministry, said a total of 105,801 patients have recovered from the infectious disease, while 2,615 are still in critical condition.

So far, 800,519 lab tests for COVID-19 have been carried out in Iran, he noted.
