Kenya's COVID-19 cases rise to 1,471 as 123 more test positive

NAIROBI, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Ministry of Health on Wednesday confirmed 123 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 1,471.

Mutahi Kagwe, cabinet secretary in the ministry of health, said all the positive cases are all Kenyan nationals.

"For the first time, we have hit a triple digit. This is the highest number of positive cases ever recorded in a single day since the disease was reported in the country on March 13, 2020," Kagwe told journalists in Nairobi.

Kagwe said that three patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 408.

The official noted that three people succumbed to the disease, bringing the number of fatalities to 55.

He said that Wednesday's figures show that cases are on the rise, especially in the informal settlement in Nairobi.

Kenya's medical personnel have tested 67,341 samples since the disease was reported in the country. Enditem
