ISLAMABAD, May 28 (Xinhua) -- A search team aided by Airbus staff has found the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK8303 which crashed last week in the country's southern port city of Karachi, said a spokesperson on Thursday.

A spokesperson of the PIA said at Twitter that the CVR was found from the debris on Thursday and it was handed over to a team of the Air Accidents Investigation Board (AIIB) of Pakistan, searching for the cause of the crash.

"This will be a key component in the Air Crash Investigation. PIA Teams were searching extensively for CVR aided by Airbus Team," the spokesperson added.

A team of experts from France belonging to Airbus which reached Pakistan on Tuesday has also been providing technical assistance to a local team investigating the plane crash.

A passenger plane Airbus A320 of PIA heading to Karachi from Lahore crashed at a densely populated area near Jinnah International Airport merely a minute before its landing on May 22. Of the total 99 persons on board, including 91 passengers and eight crewmembers, 97 people lost their lives in the accident while only two passengers survived in the crash.

A spokesperson of the PIA said on Monday that the visiting Airbus team would take back the black box and the CVR of the aircraft for further investigation.

The aircraft was handed over to the PIA in 2014 and it had completed 47,100 flight hours and 25,860 flight cycles until its crash, according to a spokesperson of the PIA. Enditem
