COPENHAGEN, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Danish football kicked off again for the first time in three months on Thursday evening, as AGF drew with Randers 1-1 in front of a wall of large video screens placed in the stands.
During the Danish Super League match at Ceres Park in Aarhus, around 200km northwest of the capital Copenhagen, the players on the pitch were able to see supporters from their living rooms via a wall of multiple screens in the virtual stands.
Gatherings of more than 10 people in public, festivals, and sporting events have been banned in Denmark since March 18 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The actual match was a duel-like affair, with the players seemingly forgetting about COVID-19 reservations on the pitch.
A probable time delay produced a somewhat delayed reaction from the few Randers fans on screens after Alhaji Kamara put Randers in the lead in the first half.
However, there was an immediate burst of wild cheers from virtual AGF supporters when AGF's Patrick Mortensen struck a powerful shot in the back of Randers net after the break.
AGF's video wall has now gone viral and been hailed by Spanish newspaper Marca as "a groundbreaking initiative" while U.S. media such as Business Insider, Fox Sports, and Yahoo Sports have described the concept as a "solution to sports without fans". Enditem
