BUDAPEST, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced on Friday that a new national consultation would be launched in Hungary on a range of issues relating to the novel coronavirus epidemic and measures to restart the economy.

"A new national consultation on the coronavirus and the necessary measures to restart the economy shall begin," Orban told on his weekly interview on Hungarian public radio channel MR1.

Orban said that most of the questionnaires were ready and they would be sent by post to every citizen, adding: "I ask everyone to complete it and return it."

Regarding the Hungarian economy, he said if the implementation of the special measures planned to restart the economy were successful, Hungary would not only get out of 2020 well, but might have a fantastic year in 2021, without giving further details.

The Hungarian government sends out questionnaires to the population for "national consultation" on a regular basis, on subjects such as immigration or the protection of families, which might affect the general public.

According to official figures, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Hungary stood at 3,841 on Friday, with 2,024 recoveries and 517 fatalities. Enditem
