BANGKOK, June 4 (Xinhua) -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) plans to provide free domestic tour packages for a number of Thai people during a four-month time, beginning next month.

TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn confirmed on Thursday his agency has consulted the Finance Ministry's Fiscal Policy Office over such tour promotion campaign for the Thais to visit varied tourist destinations within the country between July and October. The move was aimed at stimulating domestic consumption and boost the economy, which has been considerably damaged by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The planned tour packages will provide free vouchers to registered recipients to cover their expenses during a domestic trip, provided for three days and two nights in a row, according to the TAT governor.

The free tour packages, which are yet to be proposed to the cabinet of ministers next week, will be provided to some 1.2 million village-based public health volunteers and subdistrict-based health promotion officials, Yuthasak said.

Besides, another 4 million Thais, aged 18 years or above, will also be provided such domestic tour packages for free, he said.

Each recipient may be given free vouchers worth about 2,000 to 3,000 baht (about 63.25 to 94.87 U.S. dollars) to cover their tour-related costs. Enditem
