Somalia confirms 58 new COVID-19 cases as tally hits 2,204

MOGADISHU, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Somali Health Ministry said the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country had increased to 2,204 after 58 new cases were confirmed on Thursday.

Fawziya Abikar, the health minister of Somalia, said 12 patients recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of people who have been discharged from hospitals to 418.

No death was recorded in the last 24 hours as the total number of fatalities remained at 79.

Abikar said 49 of the latest cases are male while nine others are female.

Somalia has instituted measures to contain the possible spread of COVID-19 including closing schools, banning large gatherings and suspending international and domestic passenger flights. Enditem
