BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia has confirmed 8,855 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising its total to 458,689, its coronavirus response center said in a statement Saturday.

The death toll grew by 197 to 5,725, while 221,388 people have recovered, including 8,708 over the last 24 hours, according to the statement.

MANILA -- The number of coronavirus cases in the Philippines rose to 21,340 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 714 more infections on Saturday.

The DOH said in a daily bulletin that the number of recoveries further climbed to 4,441 after 111 more patients have survived the disease.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 51 more cases of the COVID-19 compared to 24 hours ago as of 0:00 a.m. Saturday local time, raising the total number of infections to 11,719.

The daily caseload rose above 50 for eight days due to small cluster infections relevant to religious gatherings, night spots, a distribution center and a health product retailer in the metropolitan area.

ISLAMABAD -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan has risen to 93,983 with 1,935 deaths, according to the data updated by the country's health ministry Saturday morning.

A total of 4,734 new cases and 97 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, the statistics revealed.

CANBERRA -- The coronavirus crisis will cost more than 500 billion Australian dollars (348.3 billion U.S. dollars) of the Australian budget over the next decade, a report found.

According to Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) projections released on Friday, the budget deficit will peak at 191 billion AUD (133 billion U.S. dollars) in financial year 2020-21 compared to a 6.1 billion AUD (4.2 billion U.S. dollars) surplus projected by the government prior to the pandemic.

The budget will then remain in deficit until at least 2030, the PBO report found, with a projected cumulative deficit of 528 billion AUD (367.8 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia may lose about 3 billion U.S. dollars in tourism revenue in 2020 as foreign tourists to the kingdom dropped sharply due to the impact of the COVID-19, Tourism Minister Thong Khon told Xinhua on Saturday.

Tourism is one of the four sectors supporting Cambodia's economy as the Southeast Asian country attracted 6.6 million international tourists last year, earning a total revenue of 4.9 billion U.S. dollars.

But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the kingdom received only 1.16 million foreign visitors during the first four months of this year, down 52 percent over the same period last year, Khon said.

WUHAN -- No new confirmed COVID-19 cases or suspected cases were reported in central China's Hubei Province on Friday, the provincial health commission said Saturday.

The province saw no new asymptomatic cases Friday, while 40 were released from quarantine. There were still 177 asymptomatic cases under medical observation on Friday in the province. Enditem
