RAMALLAH, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Palestine on Monday said that Israel's crackdown on Palestinian activists in East Jerusalem constitutes a "war crime," which is "punishable under international law and international humanitarian law."

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the arrest campaigns against residents of the city is an attempt to " strangle the Palestinian presence in Jerusalem."

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry held Israel responsible for the aftermath of the arrests and urged the international Red Cross and the international community to stop them.

Israeli forces on Monday arrested 21 Palestinians in East Jerusalem, said Palestinian Prisoners Association, a semi-governmental group that offers legal services for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

The group noted that 845 Palestinians have been arrested from East Jerusalem since the beginning of 2020.

Israeli public radio reported that the arrests came against the backdrop of their activities for the Palestinian Authority in the city. Enditem
