CAIRO, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Thursday condemned the Israeli moves for annexing any parts of the occupied Palestinian territories.

In a statement, Aboul Gheit said "the annexation of Palestinian lands constitutes new brutal aggression on the Palestinian people and the sovereignty of their territories."

He reiterated the annexation plan is a blatant violation of international laws and the United Nations (UN) charters in this regard, adding that it will completely undermine any chances for upholding peace in the region.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his political rival Benny Gantz signed a deal in April for a unity government that could accelerate the prime minister's plans to annex parts of the West Bank in the coming months.

The annexation is, in fact, part of U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan for the Middle East, better known as the Deal of the Century.

The plan has met strong opposition from the Palestinians and the Arab world as well as international organizations such as the UN, which denounced the plan as a violation of international law. Enditem
