TIRANA, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Public transport in Albania will not resume on June 15 unless the government meets conditions set by the Union of Public Transport Associations for overcoming the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the union declared in a statement Friday.

On top of their demands was the subsidizing of missing revenues for transport entities as a result of security protocol.

The union also requested the government to remove excise and fuel taxes and cut the value-added tax from 20 percent to zero for the year 2020.

On June 7, the Albanian government announced the decision to reopen public transport nationwide under some protocol.

Citizens using public transport must wear protective masks and maintain physical distance, while buses cannot operate beyond 70 percent of their capacity.

On Friday, health authorities reported 31 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total of confirmed cases to 1,416, with 1,034 recoveries and 36 fatalities. Enditem
