DAR ES SALAAM, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's weather watchdog on Saturday issued an alert over a five-day severe weather impact of strong winds and large waves along the entire east African nation's coastal line.

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) said in its latest weather forecast that the strong winds and large waves were expected to be experienced in Lindi, Mtwara, Coast, Dar es Salaam and Tanga regions situated along the Indian Ocean offshore.

The weather authority added that Tanzania's Zanzibar twin Islands of Pemba and Unguja were also likely to be heavily impacted by the severe weather.

The weather forecast said the strong winds and large waves that were expected to wreak havoc beginning on Saturday through June 17 could disrupt marine activities in the Indian Ocean, including fishing, capsizing of small boats and delays in marine transport.

The TMA also issued a weather advisory for strong winds and large waves in lakes Victoria, Tanganyika and Nyasa saying expected impacts included disruptions to marine activities such as fishing and marine transportation. Enditem
